Dance has never been so popular!

Dance has never been so popular!

An interesting read.... Bigfoot have always strived to help Primary Schools give dance a proper platform within the curriculum, rather than just 'tagging' it on to PE.

Summer School Funding for 2015!

Summer School Funding for 2015!

The DfE have announced that Secondary schools can now apply for funding again by completing a short online form by 29 May 2015.

Schools will receive an email within 24 hours of submitting their application form. The email will confirm the school’s provisional funding allocation based on the provisional pupil numbers provided by the school. Schools will receive £250 (if running a one-week summer school) or £500 (if running a two-week summer school) for every eligible pupil who confirms they want to attend the summer school.

Schools can invite eligible pupils joining their year 7 in September as well as eligible pupils from other year groups in the school but their number of funded places will be limited to the number of eligible pupils expected to move into their year 7 in September. Funding will be paid to schools in two instalments:

• The first payment will be made at the end of June 2015 and will be 50 per cent of the provisional funding allocation.

• The final payment will be made at the end of October 2015.

Schools can use the web-based tool - Key to Success – to identify which pupils moving to their chool are eligible for the pupil premium. Schools can offer places to pupils who are not eligible for the pupil premium but these pupils will
not be funded by the Summer Schools Programme.

Drama in the National Curriculum

The Cultural Learning Alliance have just published the findings of their survey to warrant drama as a key subject within the English curriculum. It's good and has plenty of quotes from top organisations, teachers and parents.

Poor St George...

Poor St George...

This year Bigfoot decided to write a drama workshop to celebrate St Georges Day. We thought this would be a fabulous idea becasue why shouldn't we celebrate something that is part of our national heritage. The world goes mad for St Patrick's Day, and in Wales this year Bigfoot worked with schools across the Valleys to celebrate St David's Day!

Ex-London Talent Member auditions at RADA

Ex-London Talent Member auditions at RADA

I was in two minds as to whether to put this on a news or blog item on our site, becasue we are fortunate enough to hear great things about our alumni all the tme.

But I was at home watching TV when I received this Twitter from a girl called Brittany Atkins. Brittany was 10 years old when she took part in London Talent, a four week performing arts summer school for G&T kids on Free School Meals.

The London Talent programme ran for three years from 2003-2005 and each year we recruited 120 kids from across London mainstream schools to attend 4 venues.

Below is what Brittany said:

@atkinsvip: @karlwozny Hi Karl! As one of the lucky kids to be part of the very 1st London Talent, I audition tomorrow for RADA and want to say thanks!

The Henley Review

Our first blog on our new website!

We welcome the review, of course we do, we are an arts company. And I'm sure most schools do to. But the fact remains, do they have to time to really take interest in it?

Our customers value the arts and always have but with budget cuts and a new stringent OFSTED framework, is this review just another thing schools have to worry about? Many of our customers are not even aware of the review.

I think back to the Rose and Cambridge Primary curriculum reviews and felt optimistic about the future. Has Gove taken interest?

I think of where we are now, and feel that our kids are in a state of limbo. Its a limbo generation of learners and my 9 year old son is right in the thick of it.

Whilst I am proud of schools and teachers, I would also like to feel proud of our education system.
